Mira Krulic works primarily in photo-media, but also in film, assemblage, and installation. Her work explores the phenomenon of perception and the experience of the viewer when the boundaries of space and form are challenged. We usually observe through a system of reference points and unconsciously try and make sense of what we see.  When spaces are disrupted and the context of an object is dismantled the viewing experience is subverted and open to new interpretation. This shift from passive observation to mindfulness enables the viewer to engage with their own perceptual abilities.

Works can be divided into two distinct areas of practice.  One is within an architectural context and the other with found objects.  By interfering with otherwise unnoticed architectural spaces her installations transform stairwells, corners and hallways shifting the viewer’s perspective from the ordinary to a new awareness of their surroundings.  The found object works begin with the exploration of possibilities and are based on forms that have spatial qualities.  The finished photographs are often large-scale and macro interpretations of the object create a new imagery that can’t always be pinned down. Lushly saturated colours and glossy surfaces draw the viewer in and invite engagement.

Mira works and lives in Melbourne and holds a diploma in Visual Art from Victoria University, Melbourne.  She has featured in solo and group exhibitions including Off The Kerb, Kings ARI, Artspace Victoria University, and the Gabriel Gallery and is a recipient of the Fiona Myer & Myer Foundation Artist Grant in 2010.
